About the area
Gran Alacant is a new urbanisation, 10-15 mins drive south of Alicante airport. The price of a taxi from the airport is approx Û20. The house is a short walk from all local amenities which includes a good selection of bars and restaurants, supermarkets and an internet cafe.The beautifully kept beach is about 3/4 mile down the hill. There is also a nature reserve on the way to the beach which is ideal for picnics.
There is a regular bus service to and from the beach (although you may walk there) and to the city of Alicante.
Every Thursday there is a local street market which sells delicious fruit & veg and everything from clothes and shoes to CDs and souvenirs. It is not essential to have a car, but if you want to explore other beaches and visit some of the nearby areas of natural beauty such as the salt lakes (Salinas) or wish to play the famous local golf courses, then it would be recommended for a few days.
The beautiful, gently shelving Carabassi beach backed by sand dunes and pine trees is fifteen minutes walk away.
Nearby is a large nature reserve, ideal for walkers.
The nearest town to Gran Alacant is Santa Pola, which is a beautiful and thriving small town with its own marina and a lovely long promenade.
You can get the ferry from here for a visit to the beautiful island of Tabarca, which is visible from the promenade.
